Deep Clean Deep Benefits
Fall/Winter 2010
Housekeeping
As winter approaches, ‘tis the season for deep cleans or maintenance cleans at many resorts. This has been the case since the early days of timeshare when only 51 weeks were sold; the remaining week was reserved for maintenance and deep cleans, an investment in the investment.
As the recession lingers, the temptation to skip the annual deep clean lingers, as well. Skipping the deep clean is similar to overlooking the routine maintenance on your car. You may ‘get by’ with it for a while, but eventually performance will be affected and the life of the vehicle will be shortened, eventuating in a much greater cost.
While a maintenance clean is an annual event at most resorts, some resort brands conduct modified deep cleans quarterly.
Whether quarterly or annually, resorts that do maintenance cleans typically receive better satisfaction scores and their rooms have a fresher, cleaner smell. Often, units can be turned more efficiently without the presence of deeply imbedded stains and odors. On the investment side, appliances show less wear and carpet has a longer life span.
In an ideal resort world, every departure clean would be a deep clean, but that would be about as practical as spring cleaning your house every week. A deep clean gives housekeeping a clean slate, refreshes the owners’ investment, and demonstrates the pride the resort brand has for the resort.
