Turning Green for Guests

TurningGreenForGuests-1.jpgThe resort industry is progressively turning green as owners and guests become more aware of green options.  New resort projects often have green architects who infuse the resort design with environmentally friendly elements.  Since going all green can be costly, existing resorts are developing transition plans, looking first at the green options that require a minimal investment.

Green cleaning involves products and techniques that protect health without harming the environment.
A few low-cost green cleaning ideas to consider:

  1. 75% of dirt is walked in.  Stop the dirt at the door with high quality mats inside and outside entries.
  2. Trap airborne dust with air filtration systems.
  3. Spray cleaner directly on the cloth rather than the surface to reduce stirred-up dust and spray inhalation.
  4. Collect dust and dirt using micro-fiber dust cloths and flat mops, which are more effective and do not require chemicals.
  5. Use a carpet extractor that minimizes water or chemical use.  If the carpet takes longer than 24 hours to dry, mold and mildew can develop.
  6. Train employees to use chemicals properly, minimizing waste, maximizing cleaning efficiency, and assuring safety.

“MasterCorp’s stance is green ready,” says David Maier, Senior Vice President of Operations.  “We want to provide a flexible green-clean solution that matches the budgetary concerns and environmental commitment of each resort partner.”
