Painless Staff Transition

Summer/Fall 2009

P1C1-1.jpgIf you decide to partner with a service provider, your reasons may range from strategic capability sourcing to simple desperation.  Whatever the reason, as you form a transition plan with the provider, include staff transition in the plan.

Change scatters confidence when left unexplained.  Take the time to meet with the housekeeping staff to introduce the new provider, explain the good that you expect to come from the change, and outline the advantages the change will bring for the staff.

Clarify that partnering with the service provider doesn’t mean the staff will be replaced.  Even if quality or timeliness are issues, retraining better performers is often a good investment.  Most quality and timeliness issues can be resolved with a strong housekeeping model, consistent training, and efficiency measures.

Income can actually increase, especially if the provider uses an activity-based housekeeping model.  MasterCorp’s model incentifies efficient staff and management while assuring quality. Change can be good.
