Retention by Endearment
Winter/Spring 2010
Recruiting & Staffing
Keeping properly staffed with trained cleaning professionals is one of the greatest challenges for resort housekeeping management. Having a good system for recruiting and training is critical, but having a management style and work environment that promotes retention is even better.
How? People are drawn to environments where they feel safe and appreciated, and where their work is perceived to have value and purpose. Employees who enjoy the people they work with and feel they are doing a good job will hold their jobs dear and look forward to returning.
“Good Executive Housekeepers understand the power of creating a caring atmosphere with a sense of camaraderie and teamwork,” says MasterCorp CEO Alan Grindstaff, “but to be effective, that sense of family must be counterbalanced with accountability. To be a part of the MasterCorp family, they must adopt the same level of performance excellence embraced by the work family. The effect is a selective retention keeping top performers, purging those who are not committed, and maintaining the integrity of our service.”
