First Aid Saves
Summer 2007
Safety

Marvin Brenes, Executive Housekeeper, Cliffs at Peace Canyon, was quietly standing in line at his bank on a hot Nevada afternoon when things began to heat up inside the bank, as well. A robber pulled a gun and shot a security officer in the neck and head before running out of the bank. Marvin acted quickly and administered life saving first-aid he learned at MasterCorp University. Even after being shot several times, the security guard lived, in part, because of Marvin’s heroic efforts.
Through an American Heart Association course taught by MasterCorp University instructors, first-aid training and CPR certification are required of every MasterCorp Executive Housekeeper, as well as every Area and District Manager. Employees need preventative, job-specific safety training, as well as the security of knowing someone on site has had the training to respond when something does go wrong.
Routine training is key when it comes to first-aid. While it’s easy to put off first-aid training with the idea that emergencies happen to other people, taking the time to learn a few simple, effective steps can make the difference between life and death in the event of a medical emergency.
The cost of real-world preventative and responsive safety training is easily offset with the savings in insurance premiums, fewer lost days, and a sense of well being... and, occasionally, in lives.
